We are delighted to welcome a new book club to the library: the Unnamed Book Club (for now) has recently relocated from Dunsmuir and is meeting here in Mt. Shasta every fourth Wednesday of the month at 4:00pm. We have extra copies of their first two books; come by the desk and grab one! Meetings are free and open to the public, as are all our book clubs & events.

Here are their first two chosen books:

On October 28th, 2026: “Being Mortal” by Atul Gawande

On November 25th, 2026: “The Lies of Locke Lamora” by Scott Lynch

The “Earth Caretakers Club” continues read fascinating non-fiction books and gather to discuss them and also ways to improve our relationship with the natural world, reduce our toxic footprint, and use tools of language and community to take concrete action to make the world a better place. They now meet on the second Wednesday of each month at 6:30pm.

Their next book is “Seeding Hope: What Plants Teach Us About Being Human” by Jack Algiere

Version 1.0.0

The “Open Book Club” celebrates reading for its own sake, and meets on the first Thursday of each month at 6:00pm. We read any books we like, and once a month we come together and talk about them. We talk about what we read, what we liked or didn’t like, how we felt; we talk about life and reading in general, and get to know each other as readers. The group is quite diverse in terms of tastes in literature and styles of approach. Occasionally, we select a book to all read together. This month, we chose “Lessons in Chemistry” by Bonnie Garmus.

For November 5th, 2026:

Each month after our meeting, I create a handy bookmark with all the titles we chose. Our newest bookmark is at the desk, so please help yourself! There are so many books in the world, it can be tricky picking something new. Come see the selection we chose, and maybe something will appeal to you! I love the variety of books & genres members bring – thanks, Open Book Club!
